We are excited to announce that Roots Forest School is now officially recognized as a federal 501c3 organization!

In the summer of 2017 we incorporated as a non-profit in Idaho and have since been working diligently on gaining this status. After months of anxiously awaiting word we finally received confirmation this month.

Our organization is committed to providing an experiential learning environment for all children in our community that invites curiosity and wonder, fosters healthy relationships, and cultivates creative thinking. These are crucial skills in our rapidly changing society. Achieving 501c3 status allows us to expand our fundraising efforts, maintaining our commitment to a program that is inclusive to all, regardless of income.

Since opening in Ponderosa Park in 2015, Roots has served 123 children from Valley, Adams, and Canyon Counties. During this time we have raised over $30,000 to support student scholarships and help with the purchase of a wall tent that acts as an indoor place to continue our learning in Ponderosa Park when we need a reprieve from the weather. Additionally, volunteers have contributed over 1,000 hours to help support our program!

Currently we serve 68 children enrolled in six different classes. To ensure a healthy learning environment we maintain a 1:6 teacher to student ratio in each of these classes. We employ five staff members – four teachers and a part-time administrative assistant

Our founding board consists of the following:

  • Melissa Coriell – President
  • Jennet Gray – Secretary
  • Stephanie Day – Treasurer

Over the next few months we’ll be expanding our board to help meet the needs of our growing organization.

Thank you for believing in Roots and helping to change the lives of 123 children!

As part of this news, we are happy to share that we will be joining non-profits from around the State for Idaho Gives Day on May 2nd! Please consider supporting us in reaching our goal of $10,000 raised on May 2nd to support student scholarships during the 2019-2020 school year.
