As part of our January theme on modes of travel over the snow, our students have the opportunity to try out nordic skiing this week. We are grateful to our families who so generously donated skis and boots to us for the week, and the Bear Basin Nordic Center for loaning extra boots so we would have plenty in every size!
Today our Pines and Aspens took their turn skiing. Ms. Lida and Mr. Josh, two local ski experts, came out to lend a hand.
Josh warmed us up with some stretching and balancing.
Lida helped us learn resilience and independence by teaching us how to get back up on our own after we fall.
Most of us started off keeping our skis in the classic ski track and practicing shuffling our feet.
Then we learned how to get some good glides going – one, two, threeeeeeee!
We learned a little ski etiquette too – always stop before running over someone else’s skis!
The students were all smiles!
We look forward to getting the rest of our classes out on skis later this week!
Thank you Mr. Josh and Ms. Lida for spending your morning with us!
